Mattia is a Research Scientist in the Systems Neural Engineering Lab (SNEL) within the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University and Georgia Tech, where he recently completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering under Dr. Chethan Pandarinath. He is a J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholar from Chile. His research focuses on characterizing how intended movements are encoded by neural activity within the motor cortex, with the goal of improving practical use of brain-computer interfaces.

Mattia graduated as an Electrical Engineer in 2018 from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, with a BS in Electrical Engineering in 2016 and a MSc in Engineering in 2018. During his Master’s thesis and the years that followed, he worked in several projects in Chile developing control strategies and hardware for robotics. Additionally, he worked on implementing control algorithms for FES devices used in gait rehabilitation.
