Bio

Xusheng Zhu is a Research Engineer in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering at Emory University. As part of the BrainGate2 team, she conducts research sessions with BrainGate2 participants and works on neural data analysis.

Before joining SNEL, she received her M.S. in Computer Science from UC San Diego, where she worked on EEG-based brain-computer interfaces, focusing on EEG foundation models, multimodal and real-world mobile EEG, and Parkinson’s disease.

She is interested in neuroprosthetics for restoring functions such as speech, and in building large-scale brain foundation models for them that generalize across people and tasks. She is also curious about how consciousness works in the brain and how intelligence emerges in artificial systems, and how the two can inform and evolve with each other.
