Postbac: Research specialist in data science for neuroscience and neuroengineering

Description

We invite qualified applicants to join our team as a Research Specialist in data science. The position involves developing, testing, and applying ML/AI algorithms to uncover the dynamics of large populations, and provides broad exposure to cutting edge neuroscience and neuroengineering projects. Datasets will span large-scale electrophysiology, one- and two-photon calcium imaging, and behavior.

Specialist will participate in testing the computational methods, adapting them for different infrastructure platforms, developing open-source resources and documentation, and working with users to diagnose and troubleshoot application of models to different datasets. Thus, the specialist has dual responsibilities in developing and testing ML/AI algorithms, and also supporting the dissemination of the AI toolkits to other researchers.

Specialist will be part of a highly collaborative team, and will receive support and mentorship from the PI, postdocs, graduate students, and other research specialists in the lab.

Examples of open-source projects the specialist will support and advance:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience, or a related field.

  • Expert programming (particularly Python) / software engineering skills.

  • Experience with deep learning software packages, and debugging complex machine learning models.

  • Experience in application of data science and machine learning concepts to neuroscientific data.

  • Familiarity with neurophysiology and systems neuroscience.

  • Experience with distributed computing architectures and cloud computing (AWS, Google Cloud). Experience with Linux.

  • Independent work ethic, initiative, critical problem-solving, task prioritization skills, and enthusiasm.

  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment.
