Research Engineer (Junior & Senior Positions) – Brain–Computer Interfaces
The Systems Neural Engineering Lab (SNEL) at Emory University and Georgia Tech is hiring Research Engineers (junior and senior levels) to support groundbreaking brain–computer interface (BCI) research as part of the BrainGate2 clinical trial.
Our team develops intracortical BCIs that restore communication and control to people with paralysis. Engineers in our group work hands-on with clinical research systems, participants, and data from neural recordings.
Projects include
- Real-time decoding of neural signals for communication and control
- Developing ML- and signal-processing-based BCI systems in Python and PyTorch, C++, Rust
- Fusing multi-modal (intracortical + non-invasive) data streams
- Designing and running real-time experiments using the BRAND system
- Supporting human-in-the-loop robotics research
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (junior roles) or multiple years of research/industry experience (senior role) Proficiency in Python, signal processing, linux, real-time systems, and the data science stack (NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn)
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Location
Emory University, Atlanta, GA
Affiliations
Biomedical Engineering & Neurosurgery, Emory and Georgia Tech
Preferred start: Early 2026
